Assumption University joins in mourning long-time benefactor and alumnus, Dr. Stephen Jarislowsky, CC, GOQ, at the age of 101. Dr. Jarislowsky established over 50 endowed chairs across Canada, including the Stephen Jarislowsky Chair in Religion and Conflict at Assumption University. His generosity made a tremendous positive impact on many universities. ⁠ ⁠ Dr. John Cappucci currently holds the Chair and offered the following words: "I join with my fellow chairholders in offering our condolences to Mrs. Jarislowsky and the entire family. All of us owe Dr. Jarislowsky a debt of gratitude for his willingness to invest in education and the betterment of society. To my dear patron, I offer you a quote from one of your favourite philosophers, Soren Kierkegaard, 'Life is not a problem to be solved, but a reality to be experienced.' Your 101 years demonstrate that the destination is not as important as the journey." ⁠ ⁠ The Stephen Jarislowsky Chair in Religion and Conflict was established in 2004 through a generous donation from the Jarislowsky Foundation and a matching gift from the Basilian Fathers of Sandwich. Since its establishment, there have been five chairholders. The purpose of the chair is to engage with various faith traditions in the spirit of dialogue, understanding, and mutual respect.

This year, we commemorate the 800th anniversary of the death of St. Francis of Assisi, whose life continues to inspire us through his profound love of God, care for creation, and service to others.⁠ ⁠ As we celebrate his feast day, may we be reminded of the call to live with humility, compassion, and peace, following the example of one who sought to see Christ in all.⁠ ⁠ St. Francis of Assisi, pray for us.

Congratulations to Ms. Peyton Gendreau and Ms. Wendy Zhang on receiving "The Dr. Dan Andreae Scholarships" for the Fall 2026 semester. The scholarships are awarded to distinguished students enrolled in any Assumption University-University of Windsor co-offered courses. This term, the courses are Science and Religion and Cyber-Ethics. These scholarships and courses are made possible through a generous gift from distinguished academic and benefactor, Dr. Dan Andreae. A special thanks to Dr. Claudio Verani and Dr. Ziad Kobti for joining Dr. Cappucci to present these scholarships to this semester's deserving recipients.

Land Acknowledgement

We wish respectfully to acknowledge this land on which Assumption University resides. For thousands of years, it has been the traditional home of the Three Fires Confederacy comprising the Odawa, Ojibway, and Potawatomie nations. Today, this meeting place is still home to many Indigenous peoples from across Turtle Island. We are grateful to have the opportunity to work on this land.
