Mission, Vision, Land Acknowledgment

Mission

Assumption University is one of most historic Roman Catholic institutes of higher learning in Canada. Informed by the Basilian tradition, we seek to empower individuals to cultivate goodness in themselves and others, embody discipline in their path towards excellence, and recognize the importance of constantly pursuing knowledge throughout their lives.

Vision Statement

Assumption University has dedicated itself to being the centre of Catholic higher education in southern Ontario by teaching courses of study that are entrenched in the Catholic intellectual tradition of ‘cultural dialogue’[1]; expanding its flourishing campus ministry and chaplaincy outreach; diversifying its lifelong learning opportunities; and seeking inspiring ecumenical and interreligious exchanges with various communities in Canada and abroad. [1] Ex Corde Ecclesiae Part 1:B, Section 3

Land Acknowledgment

We wish respectfully to acknowledge this land on which Assumption University resides. For thousands of years, it has been the traditional home of the Three Fires Confederacy comprising the Odawa, Ojibway, and Potawatomie nations. Today, this meeting place is still home to many Indigenous peoples from across Turtle Island. We are grateful to have the opportunity to work on this land.
